Took this a couple days ago. There are so many things I could do with this and I am not sure what is right. This is uncropped and unedited other that bit of sharpening. Goose in the background is a little distracting. (I could title it something like "Why Are you Looking at Him") I know I could remove him/her but didn't want to do that yet. I could probably work on face a bit and bring out the eye more but also wanted comments.
Last would be a question regarding the sunlight reflection on the beak.. Should this be removed or left?
I get frustrated with the cc sometimes but at the same time I am learning. I know each day that I am improving my images and appreciate the help I am getting here. I can only hope over time that I will learn to capture images like I have seen posted on this site.
With these at the time of making the image consider the bg carefully !! I normally think bg first then bird. Here I would zero in on the bird with the wonderful pose and go with it. Tight vertical crop which would have been better in camera.
Couple of things you can do after in PS, get rid of the remaining goose and need to fill in the dark area under the neck. Good PS workout !!! Worth working, love that face !!! ... btw solid exposure and sharp !!! .. when going after those birds do try very early or when overcast !!!
I was very pleased with the pose and sharpness. Background was out of my control at the time. I did shoot the next day at a different location at was thinking more about the background and getting a tighter vertical shot. I will post one of those laster this evening when 24 hour period expires.
I will probably do the PS work in time on this one. Thanks again for your help.
jeffrey, it's almost best to know the tendencies of the birds. if you watch their patterns, you can position yourself to have a good background with good light behind you.
agree with al. exposure seems good. what is the green fringing i see in some areas? particularly the tail feathers of the main bird.
Thanks for the thoughts. That was the first of three days that I was able to shoot swans. By the third day I was able to position myself much better to get the shot. I noticed the green also and let it slip. I see the same thing in another swan image I just finished working on. Different swan different day but I still see a thin green line.
Histograms seem ok I think. I only do basic develop in Lightroom to the raw file...save as .tiff...open in PS, size image, a round or two of sharpening and save for web.
Would there be something I am doing that is causing this or is there something else?
