    Default Ruddy Turnstone

From last weekend at Fort DeSoto a Ruddy Turnstone running around the mud. Taken at East Beach late afternoon, you can lay on the grass by the mud getting a low angle and staying reasonably clean.

    Comments welcome and much appreciated

I like the composition; works well as pano. The warm light may be making the bird look like it could be just a tad sharper, maybe just on the brown feathers???
    Very nice image

The light looks wonderful, and love the low angle and the open beak. Looks sharp on my monitor.:)

Lovely light, calling pose, and exposure. The pano crop works well. The bird is sharp enough, but I agree that it could stand another round of sharpening.

    Looking forward to more!!

I remember that screamer, I may have a couple on him. Sweet light and low angle. About sharpening, I may go over the eye without touching the bill or body to avoid halos, since it it doesn't look soft on this end.

I guess it depends on the monitor, looks a little soft here too... nice capture though, what was he screaming about? like the low angle, open bill.

Great shot Al, love the low angle and the pose!!! Perfect exposure and everything, I would sharpen up the bird a bit more but that might just be my eyes. Well done. Fine image

    Alfred:

The high contrast between the open bill and BG really draws my eye in.
re: sharpening. I do think the head/eye, could be a tad sharper. I wonder if perhaps a little motion blur is creeping in on the head at that shutter speed and level of action?

    Cheers

Probably combination of the very low light, sun about to go down, with shutter speed !! I find when you try sharpening more it seems to look worse so I just enjoy them for what it is !!!

Hi Al, super low angle, and I like the softer light, and warm colours. Well timed to capture the open beak, and the sharpness looks fine for the relatively slow ss.

Very nice to catch the Ruddy with its mouth open and you had a clean place to lay down in :D

Love the light and low angle here Alfred. Way to get low :D I seem to think these new sensors with such high pixel densities are less forgiving to subject/camera shake.. I thinking I will always strive for great shutter speed by using higher ISO's or opening up aperture. Here I may have shot a full stop faster by opeining up a stop to f6.3. That of course would have given you the 1/640 shutter speed which may have made a difference in the sharpness of the birds head, (which doesn't look to bad to me). The inherent greater DOF in the 1.6 crop should have covered your DOF needs at 6.3, I think?

Dale right before I took this one I was using the 2X focusing manually and had gone to f 8.0 stopping down one third !! Got caught with that setting :) I usually go at it wide open most of the time !!! ... should have used the MK4 and cranked the ISO :D
