I was hoping this guy would fully raise his wings so I could get the wing tips in focus but he never did...stinker.

I like this, Allen. Nice detail in the head and body with a smooth BG. Pretty good results HH at that SS with your 150mm lens + TC. I'm assuming your lens does not have IS?

Hi Julie, you are correct this macro lens does not have IS so I try to keep my shutter speed at 1/200 or faster for hand held shots.

Really great, Allen! The BG looks good and the square crop works well with this subject.

    Allen:

Pleasing image, nice techs, excellent background colors, well exposed. I don't know how your camera handles noise at higher ISOs, but would have been tempted to push up the ISO a bit for more DOF.

    Cheers.

Agree with the others - it's a very nice DF image and the complimentary BG really shows off all the little hairs around his body. One question - how does one know a male from a female in this case? Is it markings? Colorings?

Many dragons have some serious color and pattern differences between males and females. In many cases, it's hard to believe that they belong to the same species. In this species adult males are red, females and immature males are yellow.

Here's a female of the same species.
