Few things in nature are as scintillating and thrilling as “the hunt”, whether it is a heron nailing a fish or a predator in pursuit of prey. Sometimes the action and experience is better than the pictures one walks away with, but every chance one gets improve the success rate of the possible next experience. This chase happened at the long end of a 600 mm F/4 +1.4 TC, thus rendering the picture more of a record shot. The sun was also just to the right of the chase, hence the faces were in the shade. Taken about 20 km north of Twee Rivieren, on the Auob Road.
This is ± a 40% crop, cutting 60% off the original. The black sopts are not dirt, it is stones kicked-up in the chase.
    D300S; 600 f/4 + 1.4TC; beanbag on car’s window sill; ISO 800; F/8; 1/2000; -1/3; 08h32AM
    C&C welcome and appreciated.

Nice action. It is always great to experience it. Photography is a plus. Every experience increases our understanding of animal behaviour. So we should not get disappointed if all the elements doesn't fall into place for our photography all the time.

The image looks a bit yellow to me. Reducing the colour temperature during processing would work fine. Thanks for sharing.

    Cheers,

Neat behavioral shot. Shame at it being so far out but at least you were able to witness it.

As you said, good practice for next time at the very least, and good you had the equipment to be able to watch it so closely. I had 420mm for my one and only cheetah chase/kill. It's great action.
