This picture taken at the Courtenay Air Park on north Vancouver Island. This is the closest that I have been able to get to these guys.

Stats: Canon 50D, 500mm with 1.4X, 1/1000 sec, F/8, ISO 800, Some curves adjustment in PS, Noise reduction in Topaz Denoise.

    Thanks for looking,

    Steve

I love the iridescence that you were able to capture in the head and the soft light. For a change, the head angle would have been better a bit more away from you than it is and not to shoe the dark part visible. Great whites and nice detail all over. If you had a little more room in front of him, it would be nice.

Nicely exposed Steve and good for you to get so close.
A lower angle, if possible, would have been nice.
Nice details in whites and blacks.

Lucky to you to get so close. These guys are quite elusive. Like the sharpness for the 1.4. The water is beautiful. I agree a lower angle would have been nice.

    Hi Everyone,
Thanks for the nice comments. I caught this guy while the two males were battling over a female. Very unusual to get in so close. The embankment was pretty steep with no way to get to the water level for a flatter angle so this is what I came up with. Taken in the evening with failing sunlight.

    Take care,

    Steve
