Default Pentax announce the 645D Medium format Camera

After a long gestation period - Pentax have announced the 645D Medium format 40MP Camera.
With a RRP 0F $9,400 US it might set the cat amongst the pigeons if the IQ is there.

Sure would be neat if the new SAFOX AF in 645D trickled down to regular Pentax digital SLRs.

Hmmm... Nice. Note 44x33 mm is about half 6x4.5 cm. So a 5D Mark II two frame mosaic will get pretty close.
I sure would like to do a sensor analysis on that sensor.

Yes Lance, Kodak is the only company that fabs large CCD sensors these days, this particular sensor is KAF-40000 KODAK Truesense, we have a few engineering samples, what do you want to know about it?

PS, I can give you one for your D3S, deal ? ;)

    No deal :)
Whats your take on the sensor and IQ - better than the D3X??

Landscape guys might like the 645D - not much good for birds.
But for the everyday job http://www.murraystudios.com.au--- could be worth it.

    KODAK KAF-40000 IMAGE SENSOR
    7304 (H) X 5478 (V) FULL FRAME CCD IMAGE SENSOR
    http://www.kodak.com/global/plugins/...uctSummary.pdf

I've added the data to the tables on my sensor performance page:
    http://www.clarkvision.com/articles/...mance.summary/

It rates very high for low iso landscape work. The read noise is pretty high though for high ISO work (7 times worse read noise than a 1D Mark IV).

    Greetings Lance,

It's a nice chip, it's a CCD so very clean process but can't do the CMOS tricks, perfect for studio/landscape, huge files lots of detail but not so great in lowlight/high ISO and slow! BTW, have the Sony CMOS chip that is used in A900 but not the D3X, Nikon have modified the electronics and don't let anyone touch or see it naked, top secret! The A900 sucks in noise too, don't know what the D3X is like.

Is this your studio? very nice pics!!!
