    Default A sunset snatch at L&D 14

My last visit at L&D 14 we had sunny/partly cloudy skies . This is a sunset shot of this eagle about to grab a snack.

    Canon 7D/ 500 f4L / 1/3200 @ f 6.3, - 1/3EV, AV Priority, ISO 400

I have over 150+ images here: http://galloimages.zenfolio.com/ if interested.

I have 20-25 images to add to finish up the gallery.

The slideshow music is the "eagle song", a native american instrumental by Phillip John Charette.

Here's a bonus: A youtube video from L&D 14 from our GroupShoot there Feb 19-21. This was put together by one of our members.

Pose, light, the water and the details are all superb.
Shoting angle is a bit high for my taste.
    I would prefer a traditional 3:2 cut.

Beautiful light, pose, sharpness. I really like this image. Well exposed and well composed too. I like the the wider crop because the eagle is looking ahead and not down below.

I am wondering if a wider aperture would have kept the whole eagle sharp( better subject pop would have happened then). not familiar with 500mm DOFs at those wide apertures.

I Kinda like the pano, although I might have liked the subject a tad higher in the frame?

Love the gold and the blue on the water.

Sharpness, exposure and pose all look just great.

Thanks Don. I hear MN has their fair share of eagles though many come down south to the Mississippi for the winter as I understand it. I have MN as part of my travel territory, I need to get up there and find me something to shoot.

I just added another 9 images tonight to my BE gallery. I need some MN timber wolves to add to my portfolio. :D

    Very nice shot!

Where were you standing for this capture? I'm trying to match the light to the location at sunset.

    Mark,

Thanks. I was on the boardwalk, about 1/3 down due north from where you enter the boardwalk from the parking lot.

This image was taken of the eagle as he was about to fish in the lock channel with the wall as the back ground but he was up far enough to avoid the wall as a BG.

The video was taken by a camcorder by one of our members.

    Mark,

It was nice meeting you this year! You had asked me about the 400 5.6. I visited your web site and thought it was great.

Great image with the 7D, 500 combo. Great clarity.

    Is it February 2011 yet?

    Hi Paul,

Good to hear from you. Thanks for the comments. I had a great time at L&D 14 this year. I have plans to visit in Dec, Jan and Feb again. You never get tired of these birds. Just being around them is worth the effort to get there.
