    Default Moon Trails

The recent eclipse (which I didn't see due to clouds) reminded me of this image that I put together late last year. This is a composite between a a long exposure eclipse image and a "proper" exposure to capture the fine detail on the face of the moon. Compositionally, this is as it was in camera. It was tricky to estimate the moons speed and declination through the frame...hit upon this my third attempt.

    Exposure Details
    163s, f/8, ISO 200 (Canon 30D, 500mm f/4 + 1.4x TC)
    0.8s, f/5.6, ISO 1600 (Canon 30D, 500mm f/4 + 1.4x TC)

It was extremely windy so there is some shake to the star trails, but I was still intrigued with my first 'moon trail' photograph!

Very slick. I haven't tried that, but you've inspired me to give it a shot the next time we have a nice moon sans clouds. The eclipse, or lack of, was a bummer. I tried to take a pic betwwn the clouds but finally gave up.

Definitely an eye-catcher, Judd, not only for subject matter but for colors as well!

Cool idea and definitely OofB material. I like that blue sky.
