Not sure of settings. Briefly, I had firmware issues with D300 and was not able to record settings.
Levels adjustment at post processing to obtain black background.

As I'm a contrasty image lover, I certainly like this one :)
Somehow, I'd like to see the subject a bit bigger relative to the overall scene you have now.
I might have lost the water drops flying above the birds shoulder / back.
My eyes a a bit weird with a cold I have, but the whites look like they might be a tad hot?
Jim,
Thanks for you time and kind words. I am a big fan ot contrasty images too.
I do have another version of this image with bigger crop. I will post it later.
Agree with you on the water droplets now I think more about them.
Whites look fine for me on a calibrated monitor.
Agree on losing the drops - love the high contrast with the yellow and green popping from it. Hope your firmware issues are sorted, Sid.

Sid, the egret really stands out against the dark BG. I like the placement in the frame too.
Sid, I liked the composition. If you can frequent this place and this lighting is commonplace, then you might want to try for a shot in which the egret is parallel or angled towards you.
Hi Sid, Another dramatic image, I am fine with the drops and I like the size of the Egret in the frame.
