Hope this wasn't your cat ! I felt bad for it but it went for a good cause...the Bald Eagle chick in the nest. This was a great day shooting with Doug Brown and Jim Neiger albeit a bit cold. C & C appreciated....

Hi Kristin - Awesome action - Lots and Lots to like here.
Great Action - perfect exposure - need I go on.
I might consider a tad more sharpening - a little more fine detail cane be coaxed out.
Dont know what your ethics are - the removal of the dark strip in the BG would certainly take away a distraction.
Challenge has been thrown down for IOTW people :) :)

A tad more texture - very subtle - look any different to you?

Incredible action captured very competently. Perfect exposure, nice eye contact and good sharpness. I do like the extra sharpening that Lance applied though. I thought you really grew as a photographer last week! :)

Repost put it over the top. Are you using spot - exposure look real good and love the nature moment. Wing position is sweet, this is a strong image. Well done and a possible IOTW contender.

Wow! Thank you all for the compliments! I did use spot metering. I do like the re-post better than my original indeed. Don't know how I feel about removing the dark line but I agree that it is a tad distracting.

    Nice image, Kristin.

Can you explain why you decided to use an additional -1/3 Ev comp after metering?

    Colin,
I had several frames to evaluate before this one and there were some "blinkies". I reduced the exposure by 1/3 in order to protect my whites on the head.

No wonder this image looks familiar. Jim has posted one like that...the eagle with a prey like yours. Hmm...looks like you two were using the same kind of lens and TC , too :)

Good catch for both of you !

This is a very beautiful image, prey, nice BG, great eye contact and flight angle. Like a bit more sharpening but only on the bird (Lance's BG is a bit grainy).

    Congrats for this excellent capture.

BG Not changed in anyway - well at least in shouldn't have - sharpening was applied to the bird only!!

    Kristin,

Well done! Are you sure you were in spot and not EV metering? Also, you were in manual exposure mode right?

    Jim,
I checked my camera today and indeed I was in spot. Doug actually thought putting it in Evaluative would be better for most situations. Yes in manual.
    Thank you for everything!

Outstanding image Kristin !!! Sweet Big Congrats and proud of you !! Good things happen with Jim :)

I like the re post by Lance very much, small tweaks make a difference, might only use a softening brush for the bg !!

I agree with Doug. EV will help avoid spots of shadow or spots that are brighter than average when metering on the grass. It's easy to hit a dark or bright spot without realizing it and that can mislead you into an incorrect exposure.
