Dead Albatross Not Walking...

With more than a million Laysan Albatrosses on Midway it is not surprising that there are lots of carcasses around. This one was on the circa WWII dock that we landed on yesterday at the unbelievably incredible Eastern Island, site of the WW II Midway airfield. More than 75% of the planes that took off from this base never returned.

I've been talking to my wife about a trip, to that part of the world...do you need special permission or can anyone go there?

It is a good use of the fisheye. In a way, the image is a metaphor for the flights that never returned. Have you seen any of these?

Artie, Cool perspective and interesting image. I like the soft colors. Just a dust bunny in the sky and I might evict the brown spot on the left. Very nice find.

Hi Paul, Thanks. Only two companies have permits to bring groups. I am working with one of those and hope to make two trips back to Midway next spring.

Yes. Only the chicks die from the plastic. The amount of plastic out here in the middle on nowhere is incredible, but so is the experience. :)

Artie, I like the first version best. It's a tragically beautiful monument to a catastrophic series of events in WW11. The fisheye seems to add to the symbolism I perceive in the capture. Well seen, Artie.
