one of the most tame terns i ever ran into. i was getting full frame portraits of it with 300mm lens!! i spent the afternoon working on getting the composition right in the camera instead of cropping down to the compo. i have never used the AF/AE lock button much, but i forced myself to use it that day. i only cropped a sliver off the right side of this one.

    D300, 300mm at f/7.1, 1/4000s, ISO 640, manual exp.

thanks for looking. comments and critiques much appreciated.

Great look Harold. How many of the others you took had the open mouth like this? I really see nothing not to like with this.....good exposure , Bg, composition and detail.....it has it all.

Great behavior shot, Harold. I like your composition and the BG. The whites look a bit hot on the neck.

Hi Mr H - Nice - whites look OK on my screen - tough birds in anything but soft light.
Like the catchlight in the eye - might have stopped down a but more - especially if there is nothing in the BG to worry about.
Was shooting yesterday at f14 - nothing but sky in the BG.
    Like it.
