I think this might be my first image post, not quite Birds As Art material....yet :)
I had stopped to photograph some ducks at a local pond and spooked this sub-adult Bald Eagle who was duck-hunting. Caught "on the fly" ..... I'm pleased that it is in relatively good focus but wonder about the halo on the fore of the right wing, it was there pre-sharpening.

debi, i think this definitely qualifies as BAA material!! perfect exposure and lots of detail in the blacks. i've run into the same halos before out of the camera. hopefully someone else will chime in with a solution, but i dont find them too distracting here. the one thing i'm not sure about is the trees on the right. i know the bird is in front of them, but they are enough in focus to make it look like the bird will be flying into them. not sure if an eviction notice would be proper. will be curious to see what the others think.
i like the light on this bird. the eye looks great!! wished it were mine!!!
If you don't want this one I will gladly take it....:) On the tree I think I would clone out the part in the upper RHC and the couple of spots on the bottom. The larger part of the tree, if you have photoshop, it might work to try a lens blur on it. Is the camera a 1D or 5D.
Hi - Lots to like here - Love the wingspread - exposure looks good, nice clear sharp eye - fanned out tail all good points. I would evict the trees entirely - Just my personal tatses.
Not sure about the HALO directly out of the camera - easy fix though.
Duplicate the layer
Change the blending mode to darken
Clone over the Halo Area's - it wont change the dark areas underneath so you dont have to worry about working your way around the wings in minute detail.
Hi Deborah....very nice image....i think I would get rid of the trees as well but that's just me. i don't think they are especiallly bad. I would also run some noise reduction on the background. Your focus looks good but be careful of your shutter speeds with these birds.....if you lower your f stop to f11 or f8 your shutter speed will be faster
Hi Bob - the shot was taken "on the fly" - I had just stepped out of the car and the sight of an eagle in this location was very unexpected so I had to go with what I had, normally I would shoot with a higher shutter speed. I'm not sure how to run noise reduction on the background (I do not have any specific nr software, just PS CS - I'm not very skilled at masking).
Thanks everyone for the suggestions, will hopefully have time to do a re-post this evening!
Re-post Cloned out the tree, did a quick mask and applied "blur" to the background
Lance, I tried your suggestion but could not clone over that halo????
