    This isn't the greatest pic but I was in my backyard and heard "coo-ing" noises from above...looked up to see about a dozen of these fly over at treetop height...managed to snap one before they were gone. By looking at other posts here, I think this is a Sandhill Crane. Living in south central Kentucky I haven't seen one before. Canon 40D, 300mm 2.8

    Joel, no critique from me, just confirming that this is indeed a Sandhill Crane. They are migrating north right now. They will be heading south again in late fall (Nov/Dec).

    yep, it's a sandhill and it looks nice in that light. only wished you had gotten it earlier.

    Thanks for the confirmation....there was just a brief gap overhead between my house and a stand of woods, I barely caught the last one in line.

    I wish one of these would fly over my house. Nice capture for spur of the moment; too bad it wasn't just a second sooner.
