This image was captured on Guanella Pass in the the fall. I got close trying to capture the details in the feathers at the bird was changing from summer to winter. Looking back, I wish I had a little more space around the ptarmigan.

Love the sharpness of the bird. You held the whites pretty well with the exception of a couple of hot spots. Adding canvas around the ptarmigan is easy in Photoshop. It's in 'Image' and then 'Canvas Size.' You click an arrow to anchor the canvas on one side and change the width or height of the canvas to add canvas to the non-anchored side.

Very nice portrait! I wouldn't change much at all other than maybe add a touch of saturation to the BG or darken it just a little to set the bird apart a tiny bit more.

Beautiful image with excellent exposure and superb detail. Really like it and I think Doug had some great suggestions to strengthen this image even more. Thanks for sharing Dan.

Nice image and good tips given here for improvement. I would take this in a heart beat. Finish it off and repost it for us to see. Then hang it on the wall in the entrance way for everybody to see when they come in!

Really nice image, Dan! I love the fine details and beautiful light. A little more room around the bird would be nice, but I really like how it fades into the snow on several sides. Great work of a favorite species of mine.
