    Default Black-headed Gull

I would have preferred a lower angle but there was a hedgerow between me and the gull.

I cropped a little bit from the left. Also cropped some at the top and a little at the bottom (there was another, slightly distracting reflection of the bird's head at the bottom).

Most photographers already left because clouds appeared. I stayed a little longer and the sun came out again for a short moment with this beautiful light.

Great light and exposure looks perfect to me! A slightly lower angle could make this even nicer.

Angle looks just fine Markus, and I like the reflection of the water on the gull. The gull is also well exposed and sharp. Lovely water colour too.

I like the calm water, sharpness, exposure control and eye contact. I'm a bit surprised that there is a little noise in the BG despite the low ISO. Have you tried if ISO 200 looks cleaner?

    Hi Axel,
I've not yet made detailed tests about the noise of the various ISO settings of the 7D. I really should do this.
Could it be that ISO 200 would look cleaner than 160?

It might, it usually is a good idea to stick with 'real' ISO values if low noise is a priority.

Hi Markus, First off a wonderful image I really like the water rings reflection on the gull. ISO 200 is the base ISO on Canon cameras and will have better quality then lower ISO values.

@Axel, Dan: Thanks a lot. I will make tests today with different ISO settings.

I am really liking what I am seeing here Markus. The whites, the light, the blue calm water.....everything looks picture perfect. Head angle is just the right one. Big congrats and thx for sharing.
