Really like this Sid. The calling is a bonus for sure. Lovely sky BG.

I like everything about this, the calling is fantastic! Exposure and sharpness looks great. I love the big long toes wrapped around the tiny perch. :)

Sid, this is awesome. Killer pose! And the color of the BG is just amazing here and a perfect fit for the white heron.

Excellent calling pose Sid, and you have controlled those whites very well. I just love the inclusion of the clouds in the BG.

Hi Sid, Lots to like here. I like the calling pose very much. I also think the sky with the the clouds enhances the presentation. The colors look great on my monitor as well does the exposure and details. Thanks for sharing this lovely image.

Nice Sid. The pose is great and I love the white against blue look. I think some more room up top and to right may be beneficial. The lighting is great but what I don't understand is how you needed a +1/3 on the flash at such a relatively close distance to subject (assuming this only because of the lens used- at 200mm with a heavy crop in PP maybe you were a ways away).

Nice catch with the calling pose and the BG makes it pop.

    John,

Thanks for you comments and time.

This is a full frame image at 200mm. Intent was to reproduce natural color tones of blue sky and white bird. There are many way of doing this.

    1. Traditionally, I can meter for the white subject, add exposure comp for white bird and fix the over exposed sky (background) during post processing.

    or

    2. Meter for the background and use enough fill flash to properly expose the subject. In this case I metered for blue sky (with flash turned off ) in the background ( close to gray) and locked the settings in manual mode. For white subject I added +1/3 light (sun was harsh around 3.00PM and there was good amount of light reflection from whites). This way is more closer to getting the image right out of camera IMO.

Thanks Sid. That's very enlightening. I'll have to try that. It still strikes me that at F2.8, that close, my Canon 580 EXII would just about singe the feathers at +1/3.

    John,

I can under expose the image by 2 stops and put my flash at +2 and still walk away with perfect feathers. It does not matter who adds the light (ambient/flash) but it should be right amount of light.:)

Sid, the 200mm field of view covering so many clouds makes it very unique. Loved the whites and the pose.

This would be Snowy egret, right? not the Little egret from the old world( juv. wouldn't have yellow lores). Asking because I have read that there are some populations of those in the new world too.

    KD,

You are right. I placed this file by mistake into little egret folder from India and renamed it.
Bird in this image is a snowy egret juv.

    Thanks
    Sid
