    Default Eagle's Nest #3

    Attached Images Attached Images

    Nikon D-300
    200-400 mm at 400mm
    1/1000 sec at f4 ISO 800
    Cropped about 30%

I know the bird needs more room on the RHS...don't know how to add canvas because of the nest at bottom:(
Would like to hear general comments about composition, sharpness etc. All comments welcome!

Lance, I normally shoot at f8 to get the entire wingspan to be in focus especially when they fly across. Just a suggestion.

Man, bet your heart was pumping, what a moment,..wow!!!

Nice picture and great nature moment. Not sure about f/8, looks like he needed the shutter speed. Otherwise, I agree with no BG restrictions no need to be wide open.

Excellent Capture. I agree about the need for more canvas on the right, but that would be togh with the nest. I really like the lighting and thats a great tree.

I agree that what may be needed is more shutter speed - I try to keep the shutter speed up around 1/1600 to get a bird's wings in focus. It also helps to have a smaller aperture, but that really depends on how close you are to the subject and the plane of focus (I think I said that right). If I am really close to a bird, I try to have a smaller aperture to get the whole bird in focus.
I like the crop/composition. The tree limb takes the viewer from upper corner to the nest (or the other way). The eagle's wing span, feet, face - details are nicely done.
    Good take-off shot.
The wings are a bit dark but detail is there. On my monitor the feet seem a bit saturated - but might be the way the light is hitting them.
The eagles have just started returning to the nest here. Wonderful subjects to photograph.
