Good behaviour shot. Might work better as a vertical.

I like the light and colours on the head, and agree a vertical will work. I feel you may have oversharpened the head a little.

I like the comp as presented, very different - and effective IMO. I agree the bird (and tree) seems oversharpened (see sharpening halos) but tough to judge details at this small size. 1024 pixels is OK as long as the file does not exceed 200kb.

I share Daniel's view - I like the horizontal comp, and bg is lovely. Would like to see as 1024. Might consider sharpening the bird less than the tree; bird may be a bit oversharpened (can't tell easily at this size) but tree definitely seems so on my screen. That said, I love the shot.

Allthough the image is a bit small, still excellent moment you got here and I agree, I also think it would work better as a vertical.

I also like the horizontal composition. Good positioning of the bird in the upper right corner.
Great shot that makes the viewer wonder at what the woodpecker is locking at.

Thanks for all the comments folks. Here's the larger version of the shot. I agree its slightly over-sharpened, something that needs to be sorted out by re-processing. I had the vertical composition in mind when I clicked this shot, but I went with the horizontal composition, as I felt more inclusion of the tree might get distracting. Once again I thank you for all the comments and suggestions.

What a difference the larger size makes. This is a stunning capture, and I love the composition you chose. It is different, and you have gorgeous light and a nice BG. Also love how his home/environment is included.
