In past years this hummingbird frequented the feeders more regularly. This year he would only come in the morning or after 5pm. This is the only hummingbird who would fight with the Violet Sabrewing (Violent Sabrewing). Everytime he comes into the feeder he makes a trumpet type sound. This is taken at the finca in Costa Rica. I will try to get a better image next year. All C&Cs welcome.

Hey Jim, I like the angle of pose, and also how he follows the perch. Im not familiar with all the different species of HB's, but on this site Ive seen a fair variety. I really like the many different greens in the iridescence, together with the purple throat.
Nicely done! I love the diagonal composition, HA, and BG. Exposure looks great. I'm struggling to find anything for improvement. I guess maybe stopping down a bit might have made the wings less soft, but it looks like you were already at a pretty low shutter speed as is. It looks remarkably good for 1/50!
I like this a lot. The smooth background concentrates the attention on to the bird and the angle of the perch is parallel to the bird and is therefore hardly noticeable. I would have liked just a little more DOF to bring the wings, tail and back of the bird into focus. The HA police will be pleased.
Thanks,
Dave.
