Great pose with him looking back like that. The BG is smooth and beautiful. Somehow the perch seems more contrasty than the bird, and keeps drawing my eye to it. Maybe a bit more sharpening on the bird around the eye. And if you're into PhotoShop tweaks, you could add a catch light in the eye.

Overall, though, it's very lovely just as is.

An interesting pose and an interesting bg.
For me it seems to need a slight cw rotation, although this may be exactly as bird was standing.
Toning down the perch may be an option.
Looks like you were able to get pretty close and also caught the bird's eye.

Hi Phil, I thought the bkgrn needed a slight color change an the bird some contrast. Otherwise, I like the pose that you caught, the head angle that connects the viewer to the picture. No other criticism.

Remember your rendition is probably much more natural than mine.

I like the over-the-shoulder pose and the beautiful background, Phil. Maybe my eyes are tricking me, but is there a slight green cast on the bird? After looking at Rob's repost (which is too dark for my taste), I think you could make the original slightly darker overall for a more dramatic image. The original has a nice natural highlight in the eye so, if this were mine, I would not be tempted to add a catchlight. :)

Nice pose, I like the perch. agree that background could go darker and IMO desat.
I downloaded and play with it, I am sure there is a room for improvements, but your original picture does have a lot of potential.

I like the pose and the comp. I agree the background could use some playing with but overall a great shot of this bird.
