    Default Short-eared Owl

This was taken in December when there was more food around for the owls.
    50D, 500mm, F/4, 1/500, EC1.5, ISO400. I levelled and shortened a couple grass stems extending up towards the owl.

The short-eared owls are still around. Both Gerry Point and Iona have a couple of them.

Good capture! Exposure looks good !

After finding at least 12 a day during the first part of the winter, I miss seeing these owls (we got a major blizzard and the majority moved on to better hunting elsewhere).
Good detail, wing position, and eye detail in the owl.

Good composition (bird flying into the image) - maybe tighter crop all around?.

Dave, really liked the pano crop, the sharp bird, the OOF grasses, placement of bird in the frame and exposure. Lovely composition. When bird is small in frame, lot of other things have to come together nicely and in this case, they have. But I think I'll prefer it without the sky and the horizon. It does add depth but its a little distracting to me.

I had wondered about the horizon, particulary the red blob in URC which I think is a ship or barge headed out to sea. I got attracted to that bit of grass blowing in the wind but I could have taken some off the top.

Desmond there a a couple still hanging out at Brunswick Point and several spread out along Boundary Bay also. They just do not appear as active as a couple months ago. I am not sure if it is due to a lack of food or different tides cycles and that is why I am not seeing them hunting as much.

    Tks for commenst folks,
    Dave

A beautiful shot. I like the composition. Great wing pose. The vegetation in the foreground is great in this shot, in my opinion.
I would also try a crop at the top so that all the BG there is white.
