Default DPP vs Lightroom file size difference

I was trying out DPP. I found the converted files from DPP are much larger than the ones from lightroom. Same file converted without any post processing in both. The lightroom full size jpeg was 8.43 MB and the full size jpeg from DPP was 9.2MB.

    Any idea why?

    Cheers,

It depends on the compression, lightroom and DPP use different compression for JPEG files even when you set the JPEG quality to 100. Also the amount of detail/noise in the output is different which affects the file size.

Does DPP maybe sharpen the files more than LR?

Jpeg is a pretty standard algorithm. If both packages are set to maximum jpeg sharpness, they should produce the same results given the same input. More likely is the raw conversion algorithms are different, even with similar settings. Different algorithms produce different apparent sharpness and a more/less sensitive to noise and produce different artifacts, which then compresses differently in the jpeg conversion.

So do you like the output from DPP or lightroom better? You may find that one produces a more pleasing output for some subjects and the other produces better output for other images.
