    Default Welcome to Africa

Our recent trip to the Sabi-Sands delivered some one-in-a-million photo opportunities. There had been a quick-fire storm so typical of the African bush, and as we uncovered our cameras from under our ponchos we stumbled upon this herd of buffalo in what can only be described as a surreal setting. I took many different compositions - but framing wide was the best choice here.

Enough said. I'll let the photo do the rest of the talking. See if you can spot the 2nd rainbow :)

Your comments, as always, highly appreciated...

    Techs:
    Nikon D3s with Nikkor 14-24mm f2.8 @ 20mm
    f11 @ 1/160 SS @ ISO-200
cropped some dead space from the top and bottom, this is about 85% of the original image.

A beaut wildlife landscape image here Morkel, love how the light pours through the centre of the rainbow. The contrast in colour is very nice.
Yep, 2nd RB about an inch above the main.;)
Gotta love that 14-24 :D, I certainly do, I'm currently waiting on delivery of mine from HK.;) (strong Aussie $ has made the purchase a lot more bearable)
Did you hire the Nikon gear or borrow from Mark Dumbleton?

Well seen and executed Morkel. Very nice setting, wonder if 14mm would have got the entire 2nd rainbow in the frame (probably not). Very well done. Are you enjoying the Nikon equipment? TFS

Beautiful scene and nicely captured. I like the breaking clouds under the rainbow. Did you find the pot o' gold?

Love those stormy skies and front lighting. Wouldn't change a thing, except maybe take a version of stitched images =)

thanks a bunch for the kind feedback guys...

Marc - hired the gear, but did get to play around with Mark's 600mm (only met up with him later on in Kruger)

Harshad - no way this goes to B&W hehe :)

Todd - I enjoyed the gear very much and am contemplating my move...this trip gave me a good idea of what I would like to have. I have shots from wider but then you don't get enough buffalo detail for what I wanted to achieve. I actually only noticed the 2nd rainbow during processing...:D

Lovely image. The second rainbow is very faint. So I don't mind that you couldn't include it. An ISO 100 and ISO 50 would have been nice as well.

That is a belter Morkel. It says so much.

Just goes to show that you dont need a 600mm to come back with a superb image wildlife.

yes I have Bhai - how would I ever want to convert such a picture to B&W? ;)
I only try it with photos which seem to have merit to do so...a rainbow without colour is like a tiger without stripes hehe
