    Like the composition and crop. Wish there was more DOF to keep birds tail in focus.

    Its important to know if DOF is sufficient to keep whole subject in focus. You can use your DOF preview button to make a guess on this.
    At 25 feet on a D200 at f4.5 DOF is 0.1feet and at 50feet is 0.5 feet. I did make a DOF chart for sigma 500mm in the past. But often we
    will not have time to calculate in field.

    I would start with F8 and see if background is ok or not. only if needed I will wide open to F4.5.

    Take a look at settings of similar images (Alan Murphy, Matthew Studebaker )

    Really nice. I dont find teh DOF to be an issue and I would have maintained a sufficient shutter speed as you have done here. If at f/8 and 1/80 the sharpness = ???

    Thanks for the comments/advice.
    The shooting data should have read 1/125sec which made f8 out of the question, but I do see the point about the tail.
