    Default Northern Flicker 2

    Attached Images Attached Images

    D90; 80-400 VR @ 400mm. ISO 800. f/7.1 @ 1/640s. Matrix metering @ -0.3 EV. Cropped to vert; very slight crop off height.

Last week two male Northern Flickers showed up at my suet feeder, and have stuck around ever since. I captured one of them on Friday and posted it Sunday on Avian. That afternoon I captured the other male, presented here. I like this one better, although the tip of his tail disappears behind the trunk. Add this to the backyard bird series. C&C appreciated.

Hi Bill - Nice backyard you have there :)
This is lovely - like the BG compliments the bird nicely, exposure, HA Eye contact - all spot on.
Might sharpen the eye just a tad more (doesnt quite look as sharp).
Wish the whole tail was visible - will go have a look at the one in Avian.

Looking forward to seeing more of your visitors :)

Thanks Dave. There are two of them, and one or both come around all day long. Usually don't have to wait more than 1/2 hour between visits. Light is best between 9:30 and 10:30, although this was taken on a cloudy bright day at 1:00 PM. I watch them out of my dining room door as I have a 2nd and 3rd cup of coffee in the mornings, and shoot from the open door. Tell your wife to give me a call and I'll put on an extra pot of coffee.

Thank you Lance, Harold and Dave. The light has been lovely on these recent snowy days with snow cover reflecting a lot of uplight.

Given the choice I'd take Florida over my backyard any time.

I like how this image shows the feather and color variations of this beautiful bird. Well done!
