I wonder if a version with a vertical crop, in from the left, that would show more detail in the bird/vole might not work also. I like the environment, but for me, this image is about the capture/eating of the poor vole.
It looks like you were nice and close to get this shot. Good for you.
I like the sharpness and colour rendition on the GBH. The dof is also quite surprising considering lens setting.
I also wonder about a tighter crop from left, and I would also consider removing the bit of grass coming in from the right.
An excellent image of just what a GBH does. The background is just enough out of focus to put all the attention on to the bird and the vole is a bonus.
