Hi Don, Good pose, HA,muted backround and a nice touch with the dripping water. This looks like it was taken at a time of day when the lighting wasn't helping you. I do see some detail in the whites but with warm light(early or late) it would have brought out much more detail in the feathers which is important when shooting this type of bird. For my taste I might crop a small bit off the top...

Hi Don - Dave has pretty much nailed it for me :)
Reflection is not very strong so I would be very tempted to crop from the bottom.
Shutter speed was 1250th - not sure if the flash did much here - depending how far away you were. Agree with Daves point about wanting more detail in the feathers :)
    Keep em coming :)

    Hi Don

Can add would also take a little of the bottom since the reflection is not complete. btw flash wise as Lance pointed out it had no effect on the bird, at that shutter speed you are shooting at close to 1/8 power. Using flash with harsh light is not a bad idea since it will fill shadows, in your case would have set to 1 to 1 and compared to no flash !!

Thks , for the input, i'll try to put this into my "Techniques" on my next shoot. My distance from subject was quite far as well. Lot's to learn about flash, and harsh light.
Thks for all of your suggestions!

Don on the back of the flash you will see the effective distance, try changing the shutter speed and see what happens.

Also remember to take two or three images in succession for comparison, best way to figure what is going on.
