    Default Cocktails, anyone?

For nearly 30 years I have been waiting the get a lion looking at me while drinking, and the one time this happens, it is next to a concrete water trough! I have many of them where they are drinking from the trough, but what is a Kalahari Lion over a concrete structure? One cannot believe the stupidity of Nature conservation if this is what they do! I was disgusted in the way they changed the Nossob waterhole!

A lovely moment well captured Callie, with the tongue curl on display here. Nice lighting, was it possible to get a touch lower to get the eyes completely out of shadow?

I get your frustration with the concrete waterholes Callie! Unfortunately for us they were built long ago before photography was so popular :)

lovely light and eye contact. I know the limitations here so won't crit on the angle. I still need one of these...

Nicely detailed photo. Really good view of that raspy tongue.

Excellent detail Callie, and I like the light. Good to see the tongue too. I agree, man made structures really spoil otherwise great sightings, and photo opportunities.

    Hi Morkel
The concrete trough was built after 2006! That is what makes me so mad, they had a proper rock frinking hole there before!
Thanks guys for looking, I appreciate. A lower angle is not possible, as one shoots down from the hide onto the drinking hole.

Really nice shot - love the detail. Great tongue and I like the tail tip.

Lovely eye contact. I understand your frustration about the unnatural water holes. Infact, mindless construction of waterholes (not just concrete but the number of waterholes and locations) changes the flora and fauna of the region. Unfortunately, everybody is after short term success.

Nice one, Callie, especially the reflection & eyes. Agree on waterhole construction frustrations- quite a few in KTP with too obvious concrete edges, valves, etc, turning a potentially nice shot into a record for the personal files.

    Nicely done Callie,

I like the tongue and the eyes in particular. I can understand your frustration on mad made elements.
