    Default Play fight

Two of the 10 strong Mapula Wild Dog pack play fighting in the early golden hour of the morning. Have actually cooled the WB a tad, but still wanted to replicate the light that I saw.
D3 500VR 1/250s ISO400@f/4.8 just outside camp @ Mapula Lodge, Moremi GR- Botswana Sept '09.

    C & C most welcome

    Cheers
    Marc

Marc, lovely warm colours, and well timed to get the close up action. Watched a program on TV last night - these guys are really endangered now. Unscrupolous dealers are selling them to China.

Marc, it was a half hour inset on one of our investigative/ news programs. Some game farm owners on our northern borders are selling them to China. It looks like they are put into Zoos under really horrible conditions. They claim there are already around 200-300 wild dogs there.

Do you have a web link to the program perhaps Stuart?

    Marc,
Nice interaction. Like the light. Is this full frame? Some more space at the bottom would have been better. I would also explore cropping from the bottom, just below the joint where the foreleg of the fellow on the right touches the leg of the other one. Thanks for sharing. Look forward to more.

    Cheers,
    Sabyasachi

That link takes you to the article only Ken.
Have found the link to the actual video here:

What surprised me the most about the doco is the fact that the WD is not CITES listed! :(

Great capture, my dog sightings in Feb were only so-so compared to previous safaris.

The grass was not the short length I see it is in your images.

the program was saddening. China better get some legislation going regarding
    a. protection of endangered species
    b. annihilation of trade in wild animals
    c. stop eating pets!
    :(

lovely interaction in splendid light here Marc! I still need a decent WD sighting, haven't seen them in more than 10 years.

    Hi Marc,

    Great action and great BKGR.
I would have preferred the WDs to have been a little sharper ( in an ideal world )

I like the interaction, the light, colors, and the crop. Also wish for a little more sharpness.

A shot like this is a great shot, whatever. Oh, for the opportunity one day! Otherwise, everything I thought (and more) is already covered.

That news is seriously worrying. More hope of South Africa putting some legislation together, Morkel.... I'm an ignoramus, and no kind of activist, and stay out of this kind of discussion generally, but I can say first hand that everything you think is worse than that, and any kind of wildlife trade to China or Thailand is bad trade. If pictures of Chinese eating or harassing wild dogs to distraction would make a difference...well, it is simply a case of nobody having taken the pictures yet. :(

Great pair of dogs Very nice interaction, would not mind an even tighter crop from the bottom !!! Like it a lot !!
