Hi Mack We can only post one bird at a time but re post the original with changes, had to take the second down.
Not much you can do with that perch .. just frame as tight as you can to minimize. Little birds are tough and getting one clean usually has to do with a set up and feeding ... or special conditions. I'm sure you can get the bird in a better perch by persisting but I know how frustrating it can be.
If you add a perch, clone the bird and place on a perch etc it becomes a digital creation which is fine as long as you note what it is. Best approach would be getting the bird to perch of your choice with some bird seed. Make sure feeding is allowed at the chosen area !!!
Alan Murphy's Song Bird Guide might be of some assistance in getting the little guy to land were you want him too.
Just a thought.
Al has it covered :)
Hi Mack,Agree that it's not an easy feat shooting small birds and getting a clean shot without the use of set up, baiting etc. I always enjoy seeing a bird shot in a natural environment that works well. Good advice about framing the bird tighter to get rid of distractions...
Finally got the right photo uploaded, really don't like the noise in the background now. I've read Alan's handbook, and his ideas are great for a controlled situation, like your backyard or somewhere you are going to be for a while and you have plenty of time to set up and attract the birds. I know a lot of you frequent the Nat'l Parks and wildlife preserves, and it is not really acceptable or legal to my knowledge to do a lot of the things Alan suggests. Do you scatter a few black oil sunflower seeds or peanuts and set up perches? The other question, is how do you bait a flycatcher, especially when there are a lot of flies?:)
