    Default Gloomy day Anna's

    I have no idea what happened to our sunny Arizona weekends.. I was out saturday morning and got this very colorful Anna's Hummingbird.


    Model - Canon EOS 50D
    Lens - Canon 400mm 5.6L
    ExposureTime - 1/640 seconds
    FNumber - 5.60
    ExposureProgram - Aperture priority
    ISOSpeedRatings - 800
    ExposureBiasValue - -0.33
    MeteringMode - Partial
    FocalLength - 400 mm

    Hi Bernie, This is a tough situation to get a good image in most cases you have to make sure you get the exposure on the subject right and ignore the exposure on the sky it's' going to be white anyway. Also fill flash is very helpful here to bring out detail on your subject. The Anna in your post is under exposed otherwise I think you would have a very nice image here, I played with it in PS just to give you a closer ideal of where the tonalities on the Anna should have been and as you can see the colors around the gorget really look nice.

    Good-looking specimen and sharpness. I wish for a lower angle and more eye contact, a vertical crop might work, too. In light like that, dialing in positive EC would help to expose the bird properly in camera.
