    Default Canon 7D and CS4

This week I bought the Canon 7D (have been shooting the 40D). I've gone through the archives to try to figure out my problem of not being able to open the RAW fils in CS4. In bridde, the files are shown as CR2 files but when I double click on one of the files I get this message: "Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document". I have no problems in DPP, but I really want to be able to open the files from Bridge. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Additional info, I downloaded, from Adobe, the Camera Raw 5.6 update but that does not seem to help.

First message should have said not being able to open the RAW files in CSR. In BRIDGE, instead of 'bridde', sorry...

Well, seems I can answer my own question :o. I updated the Camera Raw 5.6 update from my CS4 program (previously did that from Photoshop's web site) and that seems to have done the trick. :)

ACR 5.6 should be able to open 7D RAW files. Are you sure the update worked?

P.S.: I guess we typed at the same time, good to hear that you fixed the problem.

    Gail,
This does seem odd. I tried opening a 7D raw file and it failed. Then I did an update. I can now open in photoshop via camera raw, but bridge does not show any thumbnails. Double clicking on a .cr2 file opens it in ACR. I looked on the adobe site, and I can find info that acr 5.6 supports the 7D, but could find nothing about bridge.

Does anyone see 7D images in bridge?

Roger, after I did the update from my CS4 program, I can now see the thumbnails in Bridge. Gail

Alex, I wasn't sure it did download, so I went to the update in my CS4 program and then it appeared to work.

Well, it gets a little stranger. I updated adobe products, then windows, then adobe flash wanted to update--did them all. I also rebooted. I pointed bridge at a directory of 80 7D raw files. Bridge shows images for all but 10 files. If I double click on one of those 10, they come up in ACR just fine. Also dcraw reads those files just fine. I guess bridge still needs some work.

One of my thumbnails didn't show up in Bridge, but I double clicked it and it opened in Photoshop. Then when I closed it, it showed up in Bridge after that.

I cannot view 7D RAW thumbnails in ACR/CS4 but they open al right - In Bridge I can see the 7D RAW' thumbnails. Does anyone know why I cannot see the RAW thumbnails in ACR/CS4 (40D RAW's show OK).

Have you tried to reset Photoshop?

Unrelated, but I had to upgrade LRII to 2.6 to support the 7D files. I too had a 40D and when using the 7D in LRII 2.3 the files would appear damaged or sometimes lost. Not related, but thought I would pass it along to anyone with a new 7D and discussing digital workflow.

I have now solved the problem, the Microsoft Raw Viewer and thumbnailer does not support 7D Raws but I have downloaded a third party Codec which now allows 7D raw thumbnails to be shown in widows folders.
