Bird is a standout against that background -- that red really stands out with good feather deatil thoughout. I only wish I could see the feet.

I like this guy and the pose it gave you. I wouldn't mind if you had pointed your gear a bit more to the right, but still OK as is. I keep thinking the BG was worked on? I seem to spot a few post-processing artefacts, and the subject seems a bit "cut-out" in spots. I agree the red looks great against the green BG.

Love the wonderful detail in this image and the pleasing pose and superb eye contact. Comments above have covered it all. Many thanks for sharing.

Nice 'n sharp, Chris, and a typical Kruger Summer BG? Maybe just a tad too green. If you know how many times I have tried to nail on an an anthill and get it sharp! The plumage normally mess with the AF! Lovely Spurfowl!

Super pose and colours with good flash work. Tell us more about the BG. It doesn't look like a lens bokeh and there is some areas of green bleed onto the anthill which suggests a big blur that was incompletely masked

Thanks for all the comments. As far as the BG, I removed some OOF grass at the bottom off the feet and one on the right hand side. The left and top as shot only blurred it slightly not a big blur.
