    Default Happy Family !!!

    Attached Images Attached Images

Male Burrowing Owl standing by the nest while female works on the nest. Last year the male was all by himself but found himself a companion. The female digging he nest seems to be a bonding signal which looks to be much appreciated !!! Harsh light at the time of capture and not many options regarding bg.

    Comments welcome and much appreciated

It's an excellent image - I really like spatter of sand.

It is good to have a companion. Though some will kick sand in your face from time to time. The shadow in the eye, shows midday light. Love the sand action, composition.

Really cool with the kicked up sand but I wish the few grains obstructing his left eye weren't there. I really like the look he is giving you (?) and his posture. Well done on the technical side. Even though you were limited in your choice of background I would smooth out the harder edges of the brown horizontal line to the left of the owl.

Good job with the technical aspects, Alfred, but I really like this as a behavioral image because it tells a story. It would be great as part of a series illustrating burrowing owl mating and nesting behavior.

Actually, I like the background as the colors are mirrored in the bird and grasses but do not compete with the owl.
Eye contact and action draws me into the image.
Hope a question on cropping is okay -
How did you decide to crop horizonal instead of more vertical? I would have tried to crop a little more off the sides and put a little more on the top - to go with the movement of the sand.

    Thanks for lesson in advance:)

Hi Deborah I did not want to crop out the dirt flying up so had little options !!!

The explosion of the sand really makes this image stand out, as well as the owl being nice and sharp. I also really like the right eye being visible and also nice and vibrant...very well done.

    Alfred-
I didn't mean that I would crop out the sand/dirt - just that I would have cropped a bit tighter on the sides and had a little more on the top. I feel that the sand is going up so I would have tried to follow that movement - not the movement out and up.
Do you think I have a lot to learn?:D

    Thanks
    Deb

Al, if you did not say went on in this image, I would have thought maybe another one took off, or he was being attacked. I like shots like this as it is unusual, not the typical standing pose. Great moment!

The flying dust puts this over the top Al, and hope his eyes were OK afterwards. I like the eye contact too.
