This is from last summer when I was trying to get a decent in-flight image of a Tern. Did I succeed here? This pose was captured at the moment before the bird's dive. Would you recommend PPing an eye into the image -- they are not usually visible in my Tern exposures? The whites do not show hot in my histogram -- are they OK? C&C welcome.

I think you did freeze the action. Exposure though might be a bit over. It could just be my monitor though.

I'm wondering if a split second earlier would give a better wing position. Not sure though. Also, the position of the bird seems a bit low in the frame. I guess I would like to see more room beneath it is what I'm saying :)

If you do, then I think you may want to do it slightly :)

I think there're still some details to be recovered. I did a quick work on your image to show one of the many other ways that it could look like.

I like the pose, and think the repost helps a lot to bring out more details

Desmond, I appreciate your thoughtful, comprehensive critique. Not sure how you recovered the wing details in your re-post, but I think they improve my image quite a bit.

The re-post looks great, would reduce the saturation a bit though.

I like the pose and wing position. Good capture. Re-post is a definite improvement.

Hi Wendell - Desmonds repost does certainly improve - I like the pose - a little more room on the bottom maybe - feels like there is part of the story missing down there.
The eye in these guys is difficult - really soft light or a touch of flash might help.

Very good pose and capture of the eye. Too bad not more detail in the eye. Repost helps Is there a slight halo around the bird from oversharpening?

I think you got a keeper here! Like the pose as. I agree that saturation could be lowered just a bit and the repost definetely has brought out more detail. Finally, I would consider running a noise reduction on the background. Nice shot....I like it...terns are not easy!

Basically, adjust the exposure and recovery in Camera Raw (or the equivalence in Lightroom if it has them). Or, in photoshop, make a copy of the jpeg and then change the blend mode to multiply. The details are there but yours is just too bright and so make it a bit difficult to see them.
