Also I should answer a question I have received many times-sorry I was not able to reply to individual emails.

Q: I MA my zoom lens it works great at long focal length but it looks off at the wide end, what is wrong?
A: Current Canon firmware only stores a single value for a zoom lens. The focus shift changes with the focal length, so unfortunately there is no way around this. Good news is 1DX can store different MA values for different focal lengths of a zoom lens. Maybe the Goddess of EOS will decide to provide this feature to other cameras via future firmware updates.

Hello. New member. Can't seem to find an answer by looking around the site. I have a 7D2 and Canon took out Quick Mode AF. I like this method. Is there a work around? If not any suggestions? My guess is the new 5D's don't have it either. The 1DX has it but what owners planning do when V2 comes out? It will more than likely be removed as well.

I'm aware of Dot Tune and Focal. Anything else out there? What is most popular and accurate? I just used utilities and did visual confirmation with a series of shots but that was a long and tiring process.

    Thanks in advance.

Herma, before spending your time trying to micro-adjust make sure if you really need it

Thanks for replying and I really liked your article. I rarely ever MA. I find if a body and lens are correctly calibrated from the factory the normal tolerance shift is pretty insignificant. I shot with my 7D for 5 years, my old 5D2 and my current 5D3 without MA. Besides I find all the suggestions about distance to target a little annoying. At location or distance to target is best but not always practical. I actually don't even like doing it because I'm always second guessing my results.

I had a 50D when this whole thing started and all the different methods were coming out I came across yours. I have a 100-400 2.8 II that is spot on however it needs about +14 @560mm when I put the 1.4 III on. Others have reported this as well. Since my 5D3 has Quick Mode AF I tried it and it needed very little if any.

I really liked your method which an excellent quick visual and accurate. Some of the automated ones you buy have quite the set up and lighting has to be perfect. So I was wondering what others here are doing to get around the 7D2's lack of Quick Mode AF or what the future may be. I'm familiar with almost all of them but since birders need sharp gear I thought I'd ask what the members like here.

It is too bad because yours is so easy. I wound up taking shots various MA values and using utilities to fine tune. Hard on the eyes viewing all those images and repeating.

    Thanks again.
