This shot was taken from atop the Palisades Cliffs along the Hudson River, lying flat and handholding the lens on a downward angle towards it's perch.

This is a simple, elegant image Herb. The BG and soft light are beautiful. I think a couple of things might help- on my monitor the image looks like it needs a bit of a contrast boost (and it's a Mac monitor which if anything shows more contrast than many I see). Also I think another round of sharpening would make the bird pop.

I like the colour palette in this image. Agree with John about sharpening as the image looks soft as presented. Opening the aperture a stop would have gained a stop of SS and reduced the risk of motion blur being a factor in softness

I would agree completely with John's comments above. This is a very nice image that could be even stronger with a few tweaks. :)

Thanks for the comments. I now added contrast and some sharpening too.

nice perch BG and eye contact, agree with all comments, repost is an improvement, would use smaller radius for sharpening, try SM (80,0.5,0)

I like the repost Herb. With Quickmasking you can easily mask out the BG when you run sharpening, that way not sharpening the noise.

Definitely an improvment, Herb. Good advice on masking the BG from John.

Second image is excellent. Pleasing background, head angle and tonal details.

nice image of a difficult subject. bird looks oversharpened on repost. would prefer something in between first and second

Thanks John. I used a magnetic lasso and just sharpened the perch and bird, or so I thought. I'm unfamiliar with quickmask, but I will look into it now. :)
