Portrait of a Black Vulture
This one was captured at Loxahatchee wetlands Florida, around 7am
a couple of weeks ago. thanks for looking, comments and Critiques are welcome!
It was shot handheld with a D300
Lens was Sigma 120-400 mm at focal length 400
Single point AF @ C mode
Matrix metering Aperture priority F6.3 @ 1/60 sec ISO 200
Did some very minor adjustments in PS Lightroom
Also cropped at about 30%
One of my favorite birds and this is a particularly good looking specimen :)
Did not see the exposure compensation but should have set 1/3 less light, the head area is reflective and seems a bit bright. Should be able to tame in PS !! On the tech side take advantage of the good performance of your camera regarding the ISO, would not hesitate going to 800 and more if needed .. you did well at this low speed !!
I like the pose with a good head angle and excellent shadow detail, bg looks good but wish you had all blue as in the right side of frame !! Glad your going after these guys, they do make compelling images !!! ... btw in flight they are very challenging since exposing properly is difficult at best !!!
Maybe it's my monitor but starting around the left side and continuing to the top portion of the head about the blue background looks like it was burned (lightened) as a result it doesn't look consistent with the rest of the blues to me (almost like a faint halo). Overall a great image, I wouldn't mind having it in my collection. ;-)
