Not sure if this is everyone's cup of tea but the sky was not cooperative. We watched this guy go back and forth for a while between his perches and some hunting runs (which I missed). This was an approach to a phone pole which I cropped out of the shot. There may be too much empty space but I felt if I cropped more it would not hold up too well in the noise department. This was shot with a borrowed 7D which I must say I was impressed with (usually shoot a MKIII). Unfortunately, this particular bird was found dead by a friend the next weekend, apparently electrocuted and still hanging on the wire. Sad.

    7D, 500 f4, iso640,f4 (a little low for my birding usually...)

Great action and wing pose. I also like the spread tail.

It looks a little soft on my monitor.

Sad to read the bird died. Electrocution is unfortunately still killing many birds (mostly raptors, owls and storks) around the world.

    Hi Dan,
I like the high key look here. It does look a little soft on my monitor as well.

Like the high key exposure, wing position and eye contact but IQ has suffered and feathers lack definition. TFS

sorry to hear she is not with us anymore :(

May he rest in peace, but we enjoy seeing him free. I would put it on my wall and in gallery. Nice work to save it and the Owl for posterity. Too bad you didn't have a Nikon for it. :D Just kidding - Just kidding.

Nice job capturing the action. However, without the perch I feel like I am left hanging.

Funny Bill:D I thought about putting in a branch from another shot but could not make it work and the telephone pole had a wire in a bad place so it would not have looked good. Thanks for all of the comments.

Wow, she sure has a surprised look on her face, priceless!

High key works for me, the grain/IQ is a bit of a downer.
