CF Card question
Up to now I have used Sandisk Extreme III (30MB/s) in my 40D and 7D. I am now looking to get a few more cards and I see that the Sandisk line up has changed with the Extreme III now being 60MB/s and the Ultra 30MB/s (was 15MB/s). Does this mean that I can now use the Ultra or is it worth it to go for a 60MB/s card (bearing in mind I have always got on alright with 30MB/s). Thanks in advance.
I guess what I am trying to say guys is a 30 MB/s (200x) fast enough for the 7D?
I use a 60 in my MKIII and 7D and have noticed no difference in the Buffering with these cameras however the transfer of images through my card reader to my computer is much faster.
If you do lots of bursts, a faster card will make a big difference, for example birds in flight since it clears the buffer much faster. The 7D can take advantage of UDMA 6 cards, such as the Sandisk Extreme Pro, Lexar 600x and more affordable GMonster 533x Plus.
Thanks for the feedback guys, looks like I should be getting at least a 60 MB/s.

There are very few places that sell that card on this side of the pond Alex - the couple that I have seen are around $100 for a 8gb version and $200 for a 16GB. Not an option for me I am afraid.
In the UK the Sandisk Extreme Pro is far cheaper than the GMonster.
Yes, in the real world of shooting birds in flight, the card matters a lot. I shoot jpeg plus RAW (using the jpegs to review the files prior to processing). This fills up the buffer pretty fast. The GMonster 533X Plus seems to give me couple of more shots in a burst before filling the buffer.

I shoot a D300 which has buffer room with my typical settings for about 14-16 RAW images. Very seldom I shoot more than that in a single burst so I decided to go for Transcend 133x cards. Must say I really like transcend, you get what's on the package and you don't seem to be paying a premium for the brand name like with Sandisk
You may want to look at the new Sandisk Ultra 30MB/s (200x). In the UK are about the same price as the Transcend 133x which makes the Sandisk better value for money as it is faster.
Last time I looked for the same price I could get a 4gb sandisk or an 8gb transcend. But next time I'm buying cards I'll certainy check it out.
Yes, that used to be the case but the new range of Sandisk Ultra's have twice the old speed - A 8GB transend 133x and 8GB Sandisk Ultra 200x are both 20 GBP (around 22 Euro s).
The ultras are a few euros more expensive here than the transcend. However, on most shops it's totally unclear if you are ordering a new ultra or an older ultra II
Yes, it is very confusing with Sandisk at the moment. You need to make sure that the Ultra is the one with the 30 MB/s speed (200x) and not the old ones which are 15 MB/s (100x). They are both selling for the same amount.
