A great fan of the square crop, it's what I would recommend you do with this shot, Jason. I've experimented for the most part unsuccessfully with my similar shots in lightening the dark area seen here under the bird's right wing with an attempt to bring out some detail.

nice wing position, shadow spot is a bit distracting, would turn this into a vert with less empty sky, a bit more sharpening on the bird will also help. Not a fan of the grey frame.

The repost is better cropwise but it is a bit large (BPN guideline limits to 800 pixel vertical) and looks a bit over sharpened with some halo artifacts, use very small radius for sharpening (0.4 or 0.5) I would put more space in front than in the back for the bird to fly into

I agree with arash and the GBH breast looks funny. maybe less sharpening
