I'm always trying to get nice shots of these attractive birds. I seem to have found a good spot, where they will occasionally perch within shooting distance. They feed in a meadow with few good perches, so seem amenable to using one of my choosing. Next time I need to find a better perch and a more consistent background, but I'm happy with the results so far.

Wonderful shot. Like the angle of the bird, the head tilt, catchlight, background. The bird does seem a bit too centered to me. Don't really know what I would change though. Maybe a vertical comp?

Great colors and detail. Whole bird is sharp. Composition looks fine to me.

Composition definitely works for me. Classic field-guide photo. saying it in a good way of course. Nice colors, exp, BG, DOF, head angle and pose. I think you covered all the bases Steve. Well done.

A beautiful image, Steve. Very nice pose, sharpness, comp, and background. I agree that a more attractive perch (i.e., without the broken off end and branch stubs) would make the image even stronger. :)
