Roman's lions have me itching to post some of my own.

Mark Dumbleton and I were fortunate enough to spend a few quality hours with this pride of lions at Girivana dam close to Satara in KNP as they were doing what lions do best - sleeping.

Occasionally they did offer us some special interaction - like these 2 males bonding with each other. Although the light as anything but harsh, the B+W conversion helped emphasise the expressions and interaction for me.

Would love your thoughts on this one.

    A lovely intimate moment Morkel.

If there are enough pixels available I would crop much closer and cut the brighter BKGR away.

Both versions are beautiful, especial them eyes! I think a square crop will nail this for me!

thanks for the kind comments guys...

when I took this shot I immediately envisioned it as a B&W photo. I still prefer the OP because of the reasons stated initially. the fact that they were lying in the shade helped create soft exposure on them in slightly harsh light, which is why the colour version does work as well. :)

I think about a lot of my photos these days as fine art prints, and wildlife works better in B&W in fine art prints IMO - at least certain shots do. I feel this is one of them.

I will post a tighter cropped colour version later today! :)

Another vote for the tighter crop in B&W, please. It's just a great shot - so good that I didn't even notice the OOF grass until I was looking at the third version. For me, this makes a great colour shot, but I think it will be a B&W classic. If you are okay with it, I'd clone at tleast some of the OOF stalks out in the next, cropped B&W version, just to see. Well done on this one.

Hey mate, the interaction between the two, raises the bar here. A behavioural shot always works well. Both versions look great to me.

thank you so much for viewing and commenting everyone!

as requested...I just really didn't have the time and/or energy to start cloning here...for me the grass blades don't detract.

Love them both. B/W wildlife images are not for everyone but this is great. I'll take one of each:D.

I'm not sure I don't prefer the original crop in B&W after all. Not expecting you to lose sleep over that - just thought I'd let you know. :-)

My favorite is the B&W tight one, and if anything, the grass stems add to the feeling.
This is one of those VERY few photos I'd hang on my wall. Congrats man.

(An afterthought: maybe I'd clone out the flies...)
