Default MkIV Calibration Problems - A Stunning Resolution

I was reading a very long thread at naturescapes about various AF, microadjustments and calibration issues with the MkIV and 500/600 lenses described by several users and came upon the following post by Jan Wegener:

    http://www.naturescapes.net/phpBB3/v...t=160#p1700644

Apparently, custom MA settings might be interfering with the calibration protocol by Canon if they are not manually set to Zero before calibration.

Now, I have no way of telling if this is correct and I don't even own a MkIV but felt it might be worthwhile to let others know as many may give up reading that long thread.

Perhaps, Jan who is sometimes also posting here at BPN can provide a first hand summary of his experience.

    Default Canon 1DMKIV settings

I am seeking assistance from any fellow photographers relating to their C.fn III settings for birds in flight. The settings appear be a rather complex issue. I fully appreciate that in many cases it amounts to trial and error.

However, I just require a 1DMKIV user to give me some basics. I understand that these may have to be adjusted to suit certain conditions e.g whether photographing birds or sport.

Any other useful tips will also be appreciated.

    Thank you,
    Brian.
