Yesterday morning. Each time one of these guys surfaced with a fish, 3 or 4 of his companions scooted after him in a splashy commotion, hoping he would drop his prize. I liked the action enough to share it, even though I know the motion blur and crop work against me. And I think the AF locked on the spray rather than the bird. C&C appreciated.

Bill, Fantastic action shot here. I have always hoped to capture this behavior but have had no success. The issues that you point out in your self assessment to my eye are not that big a deal...maybe try and sharpen the heads just a bit more.

I like the story this picture portrays and I agree with your self criticism except "the crop is working against me" -- I don't see a problem with the crop -- what are you seeing in the crop that prompts your criticism

Scott - only that at almost 50%, I don't get the image quality I might have had if the birds had been closer. Unfortunately, they are very skittish and this is as close as they would come to me.

Great action shot. I don't mind the slight motion blur in this image.
The water splash, the wing pose of the right bird and especially the large fish make this one a great shot.

You have captured some truly amazing behavior here. The only issue I see is that the heads need to be sharpened a bit more. Love the colors and the splash! Lucky you!
