Default Laughing gull taking a walk on the beach

    Galveston beach. 40D. 400f5.6 at f/6.3. iso 320. 1/2000. exp. comp +1/3.

Crawling on all fours like a gator, I could get pretty close to this guy. no baiting. This is almost full frame...cropped for composition. Do you think a angle is too low?

    Thanks for looking.

angle is good KD .. just wish you would be on your left a bit more to put the gull on a perfect focal plane. raised feet adds for me. beautiful capure and you maintained white's really well.

    Hi,

I like the low POV. Foot raised is a bonus, BKGR is very good. The whites look to have lost some detail on my screen.

No. I think it is ideal! Check out the separation between subject and BG created by going so low. I love the walking pose. Good exposure. The bill looks quite sharp, but as posted I think the area around the eye could use some additional sharpening. Well done!

    Thx everyone.

Daniel, I liked the shooting angle too...but whenever I see the underside of the belly in the photo, I always wonder if I went too low in search of nice BG.

Mital, I have some with better light angle. some with gull parallel to the sensor plane too. But none with this nice "raised-foot" pose.

I think the angle is great, gives a nice OOF background complimenting the gull. The downside of this angle is you get OOF foreground also which is a slight distraction when looking at the lower part of the bird. I would have taken a slight crop off the bottom to avoid this. Well done..
