    Default Local Celebrity: Dovekie

This is the Dovekie that spent a few days on Long Island last month. There were quite a few people at the marina where the bird did its thing and didn't mind the interest. A lower angle was not in the cards that morning but it's quite rare to get nearly full-frame images of this species.

Extremely well done, Axel. (None of mine are this nice). Your exposure is perfect as is the eye contact. Such a nice bird to have visit, hope he made it safely back out to sea.

Although Im not familiar with the species, I can see that you have exposed him well enough to bring out the detail. Comp works well, and I like the eye contact.

I would have loved just to see this species, Axel. You obviously did a good job with what you had to work with and it's nice that you were able to get so close.

Exposure...black and white details are perfect as usual. Not a bird we see a lot of photos of. Big congrats. liked the composition a lot. Works well despite the shooting angle.

I would love to see one of these some day. You've caught it beautifully, with great HA and exposure.

Thanks, Callie! I am a big fan of alcids and it is quite rare to have a seabird close to the shore around here. If you are interested, here is more information about this species: http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Dovekie/lifehistory
