Jacky Winter photographed last spring in nearby eucalypt woodland. This little bird has flown the world accompanying a newsworthy paper written by friends http://www.naturalhistorymag.com/samplings/271846/heat-shrink. He did suffer some severe cropping along the way.

Canon 40D, EF500 f/4 + 1.4tc, 580Ex flash + bb, tripod, ISO800, f/9, 1/1250, fec +1/3, cropped for composition, mainly from left. An oof twig removed from mid-right of frame. Noise reduction applied to background.

Perch makes this image special. Beautiful feather details. I liked the composition a lot. Thx for sharing Simon.

Beautiful BG, love the S-shape of the tree branch. Great sharpness, and the placement of the bird/crop is perfect. Not much to criticize here.

lots to like here Simon - Like the monochromatic look, sharp as a tack, good HA and eye contact.
