    This is a Cape Cormorant, and its always good to get the timing right as they take off. Taken in Cape Town at one of the birding spots during my december holidays.

    Very nice Stuart the spalsh really adds to the image, if you have the frame right after this where wings are full up that would be interesting to see too. Well done

    Good timing and comp. A bit of a hot spot near the base of the bill - should be recoverable, if not by playing with that area's exposure then perhaps by "borrowing" some neighbouring pixels (via clone stamp). The large white catchlight covering all of the pupil kinda bugs me...I'd like to see some black in there.

    Dan, good point on the eye, and it makes sense. Will definately keep that in mind on future images.
